The Trivial Pursuit of Happiness

Don’t come over, we have the plague.

My high temp today? 103.2. Yuck. My brain is melting out of my ears as we speak. Ella has been spiking every time her dose of tylenol wears off, but even when she is drugged up, she is still running a temp. Tom is not feverish, but can’t stop coughing. We are a sexy lot, let me tell ya. Alice only runs a temp is she is laying on me, so she is hanging out in the swing, which thankfully she doesn’t mind too much.

I finally caught up on uploading my Project365 photos, so head over here if you are interested. All that linking is beyond me today.

Oh, okay, I’ll post today’s.

Our first self portrait family photo, featuring my 3 chins, the back of Ella’s head, and Tom’s nose hair. At least Alice(’s head, as her body disappears into the shadows) looks cute.

The sweetest moments of my life are spent quiet and watching. I wonder why I do not spend more of my life this way.

This post is not about poop. You’re welcome.

So I just wrote a long post about how Ella is withholding poop lately and how insane it is making me, and realized as I was about to publish it that, really, you do not want to hear about that. Instead, how about we catch up on Project365 photos?

Yay books 1/3/08
The first books I’ve checked out from the library in ages. I have been boycotting on principle (they charged me for a book I know I returned!) but after a while I had to admit that I had spent much much more on used books than I would have spent if I just paid the stupid fine, so I ate my ego and paid it. Ohh lordy I forgot what a beautiful thing the library is. We’ve been quite a few times for toddler story time, but to actually walk out with more books than I can comfortably carry? Bliss.

Baby hold on to me... 1/4/08
I did a Day In The Life in photos yesterday, but I have yet to edit them all, so this is a teaser. Alice thanks the boobies for a job well done, since she is now 9lbs 4oz, up almost 2 and a half pounds from birth. A pound of that is just in her cheeks.

Puzzled 1/5/08

Ella has been interested in puzzles lately, so there are always 2 or 3 dumped out on the floor, waiting to be stepped on. These are from a fairy tale series she got for Christmas, and she calls Snow White’s Dwarves “Baby Santas!”. Hmm.

Another long day, just the girls and I. Yesterday wwas pretty easy, but today we have had to rely on Kipper and Angelina Ballerina a bit more than I would like. I find myself humming the theme song from Kipper (”By the way, that’s a toad not a frog”) while I shower, fold laundry, try to convince Ella to turn off the tv… It’s burrowed deep into my subconscious, and what do you know, I really DO want a dog like Kipper, Kipper the dog!

I was brave today and took both girls to the library, even though I had just been a few days ago. Ella picked out a stack of books (she is all about this book, because the F is for the ‘Fffff’ of a fart, and the S is for the ’splat’ of bird poo) and also “Toy Story” on VHS, even though we do not own a VCR. I could tell it would be more trouble to try and convince her to leave it, than to just bring it home and let her carry it around, so she was a happy camper.

On the way home we hit a thrift store and I found a stack of size small, good looking cloth diapers, and a brand new pair of pink penguin Robeez in Alice’s size. All together? $10. Alice slept through the entire outing (other than a little sling boobie), and Ella did not throw herself on the ground screaming even once. It was AMAZING. Maybe I can do this ‘mother of two’ thing. Now if we could just convince Ella that pooping is not admitting defeat in the Parent-Toddler Wars….

New Years resolutions, of sorts.

Question: Would it be obnoxious to post not only my Project 365 entry each day, but also my 50 Book Challenge reviews, AND a record of crafts as I complete them (similar to this format)?

Yes, you say?

Then prepare to be chafed, because I’m doing it anyway!

We are big on the forts lately, and Ella will stand in her fort and yell “Baby! House! Pleeeeeese? House? Baby? Now? Baby!” until we put Alice’s chair in there for Ella to ignore.

Cathy and Alice

Alice and Cathy, our midwife. She came by for a couple hours today to cuddle the baby, give me some tips to stop Cricket’s clicking (or chirping! She is just chirping!), and just to catch up. Ella sings a “Cathy, catthhhhy cathy” song sometimes when she is playing with her dolls, and she was so excited when Cathy came by today, because she knew she would play with her. We will all miss Cathy when we do not get to see her as often.

Also, a question about comments: Something that I do not love about the WordPress setup is that I can not reply to comments as easily or efficiently as I would like. I am used to the LiveJournal format, where you can reply directly to one person, and they are notified by email, and that is not a choice here. Does it make more sense to leave my responses to comments below  or to reply to comments in emails instead? Do you check back, when you have commented, to see if the blogger as commented back? Do you feel chided when someone doesn’t comment back? Hmm. Am I missing something on WP that makes this easier? Thoughts are appreciated.
